Artists are considered emerging until 12 months after the date their first Canadian Hot 100 charting entry reaches the top 40. Some of the artists below scored their first Top 40 hit back in 2011, well over 12 months ago, so Nielsen must have some other rules at play. To qualify for the emerging artists chart, the artist must be Canadian and the title must qualify as CanCon according to definitions by the CRTC.
