Artists
The easiest way to find information on a Canadian artist (song, album, etc.) is to type the name into the “Search This Site” box in the top right-hand column. If, however, you are searching for a superstar, dozens of blog entries may come up; you may simply be interested in the main profile article on the artist. For your convenience any artist who has a profile on the Canadian Music Blog is listed below with a link to such a profile.
Obviously, we do not have a profile on every artist that has scored a hit, been recognized by the JUNOs, or achieved gold certification on a record. That would fill an entire encyclopedia. If an artist was among the several most successful during his/her greatest period of popularity, we would have created a profile. Also, as a matter of principle, we give priority to Canadian artists of Asian descent, Francophones, and Aboriginals.
The artists are listed alphabetically, by given name rather than surname. So, for example, Avril Lavigne will be listed under A rather than L. Articles (the, la, le, les) are ignored, so that The Guess Who will be listed under G rather than T and La Bolduc will be listed under B, not L. Often profiles on bands and their solo artists (e.g. Nick Gilder, Sweeney Todd) are combined. If you don’t find the band, try looking for the artist and vice versa. In our latter example both are listed under S for Sweeney Todd / Nick Gilder. Note too that some bands and soloists from the band have separate entries. There is an entry for both Burton Cummings and The Guess Who. Of course, you can always use CTL+F to find an artist below.
