“Soldier” by Shawn Hook for Remembrance Day
Some people say I’m a fighter
I’ve got a family that loves me
so If I die don’t judge me
we have our reasons
so If I die don’t judge me
“So Close” by Shawn Hook
It’s not because he has the same name as me that we present this MV to you. It has more to do with the fact that “So Close” by BC’s Shawn Hook jumped 15 positions up the Canadian Hot 100 this week and landed in the Billboard Hot AC Top 10! Shawn is now up to #7 on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart. He is exceptionally talented, and it would do us credit to get behind him, especially those of us in British Columbia. After blinkin’ out the wicked “Every Red Light”, this new single “So Close”, off his debut album Cosmonaut and the Girl, is another winner. Let’s get this baby to the top of the charts.

Shawn Hook’s Debut EMI Album: Cosmonaut and the Girl
After a couple of independent records and hit single “Every Red Light”, South Slocan, BC’s Shawn Hook has released his debut major album, Cosmonaut and the Girl. Shawn wrote some 50 songs in Canuckstown and Kingstown after his deal with EMI in 2009 before settling on the tracks that would make it to the album. Last week he said that his album release ”kind of feels like I’m graduating from high school again”. The style of music the album embraces is similar to that of “Every Red Light”, dancey pop with an electronic flavour.
A few days ago, Shawn appeared on CTV Morning Live for an interview and acoustic performance of “So Close” from the album. You can watch the video from his website. Shawn is highly skilled at both piano and guitar and has a very strong voice. These days, male solo artists who perform mainstream rock and roll are very rare, so we wish nothing but the best for Shawn Hook. Cosmonaut and the Girl is available at all major record stores and digital download via iTunes.
British Columbia’s Emerging Star, Shawn Hook
He was born in Nelson, BC, a picturesque town that is often featured in Hollywood movies like Roxanne. He learned the piano, guitar, bass, and trombone. After completing high school in 2002, he gravitated away from a career in geological engineering towards music; after all, he can sing and loves writing poetry. He released an independent album which his college vocal teacher produced. To earn a living, he played gigs with a dance cover band called Shag. After attending the Art Institute in Vancouver, he released a second independent album. His piano ballad “Soldier” has been adopted as the theme song for Remembrance Day by a number of public schools across Canada. EMI could not resist; they signed him, and, now based in Vancouver / Los Angeles, he has released his first major single in lieu of an April 2012 album release. The handsome young lad of whom we are speaking is none other than Shawn Hook.
Jon Levine, the Philosopher King man responsible for launching the careers of Kreesha Turner, Anjulie, Fefe Dobson, and Nelly Furtado is producing Shawn’s forthcoming album, Cosmonaut and the Girl, which is due out April 10. His single, “Every Red Light” (iTunes), has been steadily climbing up the charts. Shawn’s style is mainstream rock and roll with some electronic elements. We have embedded the music video below for your enjoyment.
