DEVIL ON BOTH SHOULDERS BY ROMI MAYES
Winnipeg JUNO nominee Romi Mayes does roots rock like no other and is up to album number six with this stunning work. Devil on Both Shoulders has both a bite and a charm that will have your ears wobbling with sultry delight. Romi has a great voice and is backed by some awesome players. Don’t miss out on hearing this one!  iTunes

DREAM IT ALL AWAY BY LEEROY STAGGER
Another exquisite roots work, with more of a crispy, rural style, is Dream It All Away by British Columbia’s Leeroy Stagger. The writing is impressive and well-penned lyrics flow with clarity. Let’s hope the catchiness catches some JUNO love next year. Leeroy deserves some recognition for his remarkable talent.  iTunes

THE KING IS GONE BY BIG TOBACCO & THE PICKERS
This Toronto group specializes in traditional country along the lines of Johnny Cash but also adds some occasional honkey tonk and other flavours. The King Is Gone follows 2010 self-titled debut and was produced by Moe Berg (The Pursuit Of Happiness). This one is lots of fun.  iTunes

VIEUX CAHIER TROUÉ BY SOUL & SISTER
Soul & Sister is the sibling duo of Montreal based Charles and Maude. Last year’s Sow Love was an Anglo effort, and now the pair tackles the Franco realm with Vieux cahier troué. Charles and Maude prefer simple acoustic arrangements, and this is a case of there being beauty in the simplicity. The male-female vocal harmonies make things even better.  iTunes
