Carlene Choi is a Canadian pop superstar and actress currently based in Hong Kong. Affectionately known by nickname A-Sa, she was born in Vancouver in 1982. She performs music mostly in Cantonese but has also recorded songs in English and Mandarin. Charlene began her career as a model and was later offered a recording contract by Emperor Entertainment Group to form the pop duo Twins with Hong Kong’s Gillian Chung. The warm, magical sound of the group enjoyed a sudden breakout success with debut 2001 EP reaching platinum sales within the first week of release. Popularity spread internationally, most notably throughout greater China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Australia, Canada, and the United States. Within its first two years, the duo received 72 awards. In 2007, after several albums, Twins embarked on its first North American tour. Though she had released solo material previously, Charlene began a more formal career as a soloist releasing full-length albums starting in 2009.

Choi’s first solo single “Make a Wish” in 2008 had proceeds directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both it and “Little Sister” hit #1 on the HK charts. She collaborated with Singapore’s JJ Lin on “Little Dimples”. Her debut solo album (platinum, HK) came out in 2009, Lonely Me. Platinum EP Another Me followed the same year. In 2010, Charlene launched Mandarin album As A Sa and the Cantonese EP Beauty Remains. Three albums followed at the rate of one per year: Sweetest Day (2011), Montage (2012), and Blooming (2013).
