Born and raised in Chapais, a small town in northern Quebec, brothers Erik and Sonny Caouette formed duo 2Frères relocating to the Estrie region which granted easier access to the music industry hub of Montreal. The brothers incorporated their real-life experience of close-knit family life into their music which has struck a chord in the region where values of mutual support and camaraderie peal out.
As teens, Erik and Sonny founded group Soon et Caou which evolved into 2Frères in 2008. Touring throughout the province and honing their skills, the brothers eventually charmed some key players in the music community: Les Respectables’ Sébastien Plante and Okoumé’s Jonathan Painchaud. The four wrote the song “Casserole et clarion” which impressed heavyweight Mario Pelchat. Label MP3 Disques signed 2Frères and work began on the duo’s debut album.
Nous autres was recorded at London Studio in Montreal and released in April 2015. The album’s music is beautifully crafted heartland folk-pop with bits of piano balladry and reggae. At times the music is festively rallying and others romantically reflective. Critics lauded the warm, authentic work upon its launch, and Franco radio enthusiastically embraced the singles it spawned. The album has remained in the Franco charts’ Top 10 since release. To CMB ears, 2Frères’ Nous autres is absolutely one of the better Canadian albums this year. iTunes
