If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late by Toronto rapper Drake has become the first 2015 album to sell 1 million copies in the United States. R&B star The Weeknd, from the same city, has topped the Billboard American Hot 100 this week with “Can’t Feel My Face”. The song has peaked at #2 domestically, thus far unable to dethrone OMI’s reggae anthem “Cheerleader” which has perched itself on top for 8 weeks. At end of June, Nielsen confirmed that the Drake album was the 6th best-selling of the year at home and second most successful from a Canadian artist, outdone only by the debut album from country star Yoan. In the UK, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You” and The Weeknd’s “Earned It” are the year’s most successful Canadian singles to date, achieving peak chart positions of #3 and #4 respectively.
