Arcade fire member and violinist Sarah Neufeld launches The Ridge. She is originally from British Columbia. The album is essentially an alternative work. One of the founding members of Men Without Hats has been dabbling in soundtrack style electronic music and books of poetry. Under project name, Le souffleur de sons, Jérémie Arrobas releases De l’invisible on ne voit que le mot. The baritone voice of Montreal new wave specialist Stefie Shock returns on a tribute album of songs from French alt-pop singer Serge Gainsbourg. 12 belles dans la peau features a bevy of high-profile female guest vocalists including Marie-Pierre Arthur and Fanny Bloom.

In the folky singer-songwriter field we have roots-oriented Honest Man from New Brunswick’s Matt Anderson and the more laid back Hard Settle, Ain’t Troubled from Toronto’s Donovan Woods. For those who like punk, a harder work is High Power by Dundas, Ontario’s Dirty Nil while on the more pop-punk side, there is Regarde maman I’m on the TV from Verdun, QC’s Kamakazi. And now for something completely different… Franco children’s music thanks to Kattam et ses Tam-Tams and De Tombouctou a Bombay. It is world music flavoured and includes an interpretations of Stromae’s blockbuster hit “Alors on dance”. Merci…Mes grands success is a new greatest hits LP from successful recording artist Marie-Chantal Toupin.

A few EPs are out. Ryan Playground is a Montreal-based electronic project. Disc Elle features a few guests including JUNO winner Ryan Hemsworth. From the same province, alternative artist Philémon Cimon releases 4-track disc Psychanalysez-vous. With Vancouver’s 604 Records, former Jackie Valentine front man Kieran Mercer of White Rock has launched his debut EP Help Me Help You, a great pop outing.
