Sony … the one and only … has taken a pair of Vancouver based indie record labels under its wings. Alternative music leader Light Organ Records and, co-founded by Chad Kroeger, 604 Records have signed deals with Sony for distribution in Canada as announced by 604/Light Organ President Jonathan Simkin. 604 Records, focussing on quality and talent regardless of genre, has become a powerful force propelling success for artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench, Dallas Smith, Coleman Hell, and Theory of a Deadman. Light Organ Records’ legion of cutting edge alternative specialists include Louise Burns, The Zolas, The Mohrs, and Mounties. Simkin has custom built state of the art music studios and a 75-square-metre sound stage venue that he hopes will return Vancouver to a major music hub and provide a thriving hive where artists can record albums, shoot music videos, and rehearse concerts. It was Simkin’s passion for music that helped attract Sony Music Entertainment Canada President Shane Carter’s interest in the venture.
Sony Music Entertainment Canada, whose headquarters lie in the Toronto district of North York, is a division Sony Music Entertainment, whose headquarters sit in New York City. It is the world’s second largest recorded music company and of course is under Japan’s Sony Corporation. We wish the new venture all the best in bringing us great music, especially from our super talented Canadian recording artists.
