2016 JUNO Award Winners, Part 1

The first of the two JUNO galas, called “The JUNO Awards Gala Dinner”, took place in Calgary Saturday, April 2, emceed by Jessi Cruickshank. Most of the JUNO awards were given out at this gala which you can see bolded in red below among the nominees. The six categories of JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Group of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Country Album of the Year, in addition to the Music Hall of Fame Inductee, will be presented at the main televised gala Sunday, April 3.

Highlights from tonight’s gala are that The Weeknd won three awards, including Artist of the Year, and Buffy Sainte-Marie a pair including Aboriginal Album of the Year. Jean Leloup won Francophone Album of the Year. Pop Album of the Year, announced by LIGHTS, went to Justin Bieber, Dance Recording to Keys N Krates, Alternative Album to Braids, and Rock Album to Death From Above 1979. Dear Rouge was named Breakthrough Group of the Year.
