Céline Dion is the latest performer announced to take the stage at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. She will join fellow Canadians Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes to celebrate the year of Canadian Invasion in music. Dion will also be receiving The ICON Award at the gala on May 22 in Las Vegas, USA and will be performing a rendition of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On”. Céline Dion is the best-selling Canadian recording artist of all-time.

Nominations have been announced for the Western Canadian Music Awards to celebrate works coming out of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The ceremony will not be taking place until October 13 in Regina. Nominees include Bobby Wills, Brett Kissel, Brian Finlay, Delhi 2 Dublin, Jess Moskaluke, Lexi Strate, Rae Spoon, The Seepdogs, Yukon Blonde, and many more. View a list of nominees here.

Maple Ridge, BC’s Madeline Merlo was recently the top CanCon at country radio with her Top 10 single “Whatcha Wanna Do About It”. Her debut LP Free Soul came out last Friday and has been selling well. It has been challenging for both Canadians and women to do well at country radio in Canada; thus, extra credit is due to Merlo and her team for the good work.

The annual CBC Searchlight completion has settled on the Top 25 regional finalists from songs submitted by artists across the country. There are 23 regions represented. Two were selected by popular vote. From here on in, a mere three Searchlight judges, Maestro Fresh Wes, Sarah Blackwood and Dallas Smith, will be deciding the three finalists who will move forward. A fourth finalist will be determined by popular vote. The CBC states, “The four that make it to the end will compete on CBC-TV Searchlight to become the 2016 winner.” CMB editors selected “Gravity” by Vancouver’s SAVVIE as the 10th best song of the year 2015, and we are happy that it is one of the 25. One of the finest guitarists in the world, Liona Boyd, is in the hospital. She suffered a fall in her winter home in Palm Beach, Florida, USA and was airlifted from a hospital in that city to Toronto. During the fall, she injured her shoulder and knee. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Victoria, BC record label Cordova Bay has signed Montrealer Karl Wolf, best known for his triple platinum single “Africa”. The debut release from the deal will be single “Amateur in Love” through the Cadence Music Group. Cordova Bay has worked with some high profile artists including State of Shock, Raghav, and David Gogo.

Tegan and Sara announced that a music video will be concocted for every track in upcoming album Love You to Death. The duo will be working with various creators to accomplish this. A new MV has been released for “U Turn” done by Seth Bogart with custom painted jackets by Peggy Noland. View it below.
