Drake Slaughters the Charts

Drake - Views from the 6Drake has slaughtered the charts this week. Not since the release of Justin Bieber’s Purpose have we seen all tracks on an album appear on the Billboard Hot 100. All 20 tracks on Drake’s album Views have made this week’s chart. Additionally lie his “Summer Sixteen” and feature in Rihanna’s “Work”. Amidst the chart invasion, only two non-Drake tracks have reached new peak positions: MAGIC!’s “Lay You Down Easy” at #42 and Ruth B’s “Lost Boy” at #46. Drake’s album Views makes #1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart with a platinum plus 92,000 units sold. It is the highest one-week sales total for a Canadian since Celine Dion’s Loved Me Back to Life in late 2013. At #3 on the albums chart is EP We the North from Ajax, ON’s Peter Jackson.

Jess Moskaluke Back in the Top 10

Jess-Moskaluke-2a

Country superstar Jess Moskaluke is back in the Country Top 10 with her current hit “Take Me Home” at #8 this week. Her first Top 10 hit was “Kiss Me Quiet” (#7). Also reaching #7 was “I’m an Open Road” by Paul Brandt which featured Jess. “Cheap Wine and Cigarettes” from her excellent JUNO nominated album Light Up the Night just missed the Top 10 at #11 but went gold becoming in 2014 the first gold single from a female Canadian country artist since Shania Twain.

NOTES:

Nielsen SoundScan compiles weekly data on sales of digital singles from a comprehensive pool of Canadian retailers. Nielsen BDS compiles weekly data on spins of singles from 137 radio stations nationwide electronically monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These two charts are combined in the Canadian Hot 100 which is published by Billboard. Beginning 17 September 2014, Nielsen included streaming data from online services in determining the Hot 100.

Here we list all entries from the chart that are in whole or in part by Canadian artists.

The date of the chart corresponds to the release of Nielsen Music’s Canadian Update newsletter which is normally 10 days earlier than the date on the online Billboard chart.

We have used the artwork for the singles where we can. In the case where one doesn’t exist or is unavailable, we have used artwork for the album on which the song appears.
