Blood Orange, alias of New York’s Dev Hynes, put out an album this year called Freetown Sound, and it appeared on a number of year-end best album lists. Dev is a specialist in mood-setting alternative synth-soul. He was a co-writer and producer on track “All That” from Carly Rae Jepsen’s Emotion album. Carly returns the favour by helping him out on a track off the Blood Orange album, adding her vocals to “Better Than Me”. Today, its music video was released featuring grey-clad dancers in a studio with Jepsen looking and sounding ultra cool. Carly’s British Columbian sister Nelly Furtado is also featured on a track from the Blood Orange album (“Hadron Collider”). Furtado will be releasing a new studio album in early 2017. Carly Rae Jepsen will be headlining Canada’s New Year’s Eve bash on Parliament Hill. Performances across the country can be live streamed at the CBC Music website for those without cable TV. In the meantime, enjoy the MV.
