Billboard Canada Top Canadian Emerging Artists of 2016

L to R: Ontario's Coleman Hell, Nova Scotia's Ria Mae, and Quebec's Jonathan Roy

Left to Right: Ontario’s Coleman Hell, Nova Scotia’s Ria Mae, and Quebec’s Jonathan Roy.

The chart below reflects chart activity from the surveys dated December 5, 2015 to November 26, 2016. Rankings are based on sales, airplay and streaming data from Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen BDS. These were the most popular songs of 2016 by emerging Canadian artists according to all-format audience impressions, On-Demand Streaming and Digital Song sales measured by Nielsen Music. To qualify for this chart, an artist must be Canadian and meet the CRTC ‘A’ definition (music or lyrics principally performed by a Canadian artist). Artists are considered emerging until 36 months after the date their first Canadian Hot 100 charting entry reaches the top 40. Once an artist has a title disqualified on these points, their entire catalogue is disqualified.
