The big news regarding this week’s charts is that Dallas Smith has scored his third number one single at country radio. Bolstered by a powerhouse performance at the 2017 JUNO Awards gala, “Side Effects” dethrones Jason Aldean from the top spot becoming the biggest country hit in the land. Congratulations Dallas!
The Hot 100 this week sees a new chart peak for Alessia Cara’s collaboration with Zedd, “Stay,” no doubt boosted by her performance at the JUNO Awards, an event that attracted 1.2 million viewers. There are two new entries this week that involve homegrown artists. “Come Closer” by WizKid featuring Drake debuts at #68 and Walk Off the Earth’s “Fire in My Soul” burns up to #95. The top Canadian artist entry on the Hot 100 continues to be Drake’s “Passionfruit” though it slips from #2 to #7.
At #10, the aforementioned “Stay” is the top digital song involving a Canadian. The song can be heard everywhere except among United Airlines staff. The Weeknd’s “I Feel It Coming” stays at #2 on Hot 100 Airplay, #1 on Emerging Artists for the 4th week, #2 on All-Format Airplay, #3 on CHR, #5 on AC. On Hot AC it’s all Alessia Cara, as “Scars to Your Beautiful” leaps 3 notches to #2. Mother Mother continues as the top Canadian act at Rock fixed at #5.
No Canadian albums debut in the Top 25 this week. More Life by Drake spends its third week at #1.
