This Week’s Chart Highlights and Other News

Céline Dion and Drake, very different in style, are two Canadian awesomes and they are both booked to perform at the upcoming 2017 Billboard Music Awards which will be held in the US city of Las Vegas on May 21. Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara, Drake, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd, and PartyNextDoor have nominations. Drake leads the pack with a total of 22, and The Weeknd has 13.

On the Hot 100, Shawn Mendes’ “There’s Nothin’ Holding Me Back” debuts at #17, at #8 in Australia, at #7 in the United Kingdom, and at #44 in the United States. It looks like the Brits dig it most. “Lust for Life” by Lana Del Ray featuring The Weeknd enters the Canadian Hot 100 at #39.

“Reminding Me” by Shawn Hook featuring Vanessa Hudgens lands on the Emerging Artists chart at the strong position of #14. Both it and James Barker Band’s “Chills” are bubbling under the Hot 100.

Killin’ it at Franco radio is “Fou” by Andréanne A. Malette. Song sales crown “Je déteste ma vie” by Désirée off La Voix 5 various artists album which is tops in terms of album sales this week. On the overall Canadian albums chart, the bilingual work betters its debut at #7 last week to #4 this week, as The Voice prepares for the grand finale this weekend.

In the land down under, “Stay” by Alessia Cara and Zedd is the preferred Canadian artist song at #7. The single is currently at #11 in the United States. The Brits, however, are still snacking on Drake’s “Passionfruit”.
