Shawn Mendes Leads JUNO Nominations; Sarah McLachlan to Host

St. Patrick’s Day 2019 will see Nova Scotian global superstar Sara McLachlan play host to the JUNO gala taking place in London. Today, the nominations were announced, and not surprisingly youthful acoustic guitar pop champion Shawn Mendes of Pickering, Ontario leads the pack with six. At five nominations is Toronto R&B slayer The Weeknd. Rising stars bülow and Loud Luxury were each given four nominations. It is important to note that the JUNOs will only nominate works that have been submitted by the artists or their record labels. Many artists – from headliners to undergrounders – do not submit. A case in point this year is Drake. Although his double album Scorpion set all kinds of records, it was not submitted for consideration, and thus Drake has received no nominations this year. Non-Canadian citizens appear to have been nominated, but we will save that discussion for a future post. Three performers have been booked: bülow, Loud Luxury, and Corey Hart. The latter will be inducted into the Music Hall of Fame. We won’t bother listing all the nominations here. You can view them in “printer friendly format” over at the official JUNO Awards website here.
