10 Things to Know About the May 28, 2019 Charts

1. The drought of CanCon in the Top 40 of the Hot 100 continues. Although there are a few tracks involving Canadian artists, no officially Canadian song appears in the Top 40. The highest charting CanCon track is “Love Me” by Felix Cartal & Lights, at #49 on the Hot 100.

2. “Old Town Road” spends its 7th week at No. 1 on the Hot 100. The novelty song from rapper Lil Nas X featuring country singer Billy Ray Cyrus was co-penned by industrial band Nine Inch Nails’ members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross c/o “34 Ghosts IV”.

3. Carly Rae Jepsen‘s fourth studio album Dedicated enters the Albums chart at #16. Debuting on top is Father Of Asahd from US artist DJ Khaled.

4. Half of the Top 10 albums are debuts. Besides Father of Asahd, Tyler the Creator’s Igor enters at #2, The National’s I Am Easy to Find at #4, Rammstein’s German-language self-titled effort at #5, and Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired to A Hellish Extent at #10.

5. Now behind “Old Town Road”, “I Don’t Care” from Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber slips from the top spot to #2 on the Hot Digital Songs chart. The song snatches the melody from Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Too Much”.

6. “Sucker” from The Jonas Brothers crowns four radio format charts: Hot 100 Airplay, All Format, CHR, and Hot AC.

7. “Lo/Hi” from The Black Keys continues its reign at Rock Radio; Arkells‘ “Hand Me Downs” is tops for a Canadian act at #4.

8. “Keep It Simple” becomes James Barker Band‘s second number one single at Country Radio replacing fellow Canadian MacKenzie Porter‘s “About You”. It is the ninth song from a homegrown artist to reach the summit in 2019.

9. AC Radio is thinking Pink who has the #1 song at the format – “Walk Me Home”. Scott Helman helms the Canadian contingent with “Hang Ups” at #3.

10. With the success of “Love Me” with Lights, Felix Cartal is the champ on the Emerging Artists chart.
