Billboard Top Country Airplay Tunes in Canada, 2013

country_radioRanked by the number of spins, here are the 50 most-played songs on country radio during the 2013 chart year from Nielsen BDS. “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” by  Randy Houser was tops and Dallas Smith’s “Nothing But Summer” was the top Canadian song at #25. COMMENTS BY OUR PANEL OF HOSERS FT. YUKON CORNELIUS

Pierre copyTo help us review the year in country music, we are delighted to be joined by Yukon Cornelius.  Welcome, Yukon!

Yukon C copyHold on, just hooooold on! Sniff, sniff, lick, lick. Nothin’!

Julie copyEr, I believe Yukon means “Nothing But Summer” by Dallas Smith, the most played Canadian country song of the year. The sad news is the top played Canadian song was only 25th. Dallas’ “Jumped Right In” from last year was a gold single, so he’s doing very well.

Yukon C copyGold? Did you say gold? Show me where the gold is and I’ll pick up some life-sustaining supplies: honkey tonk piano, banjo, fiddle, and guitar strings. And then we’ll be rich with the biggest gold strike this side of Hudson Bay!

Carolyn copyCanCon was very low among the year-end country top 50 with only 7 songs by Canadian artists most of which were in the bottom half of the chart.

Yukon C copyWell, Caroline, we need to hire ourselves a Bumble and scare those DJs into giving our fine artists the spins that they deserve!

Carolyn copyMy name’s Carolyn!

Pierre copyIt’s interesting that Dean Brody’s “Bounty” and Gord Bamford’s “When Your Lips are So Close” hit number one but didn’t make the year-end chart. However, Brody’s “Dirt” made it to #43.

Yukon C copyNow, Dean and Gord are able to make some decent songs. That’s how it’s done. Wahooooo! Sniff, sniff, lick, lick … Platinum! What I’ve been searching for all my life! I’ve struck it rich! I’ve got me a platinum mine! Wahooooo!

Julie copyAny comments on the country chart Earl?

Earl copyNot really. I like Yukon’s pickaxe though. I’ll give you a buck and a quarter for it.

Yukon C copyDone! And I will give you folks a lift. Hop aboard, mateys.
