Ranked by the number of spins, here are the 40 most played songs on adult contemporary (AC) radio during the 2014 chart year from Nielsen BDS. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams was tops and MAGIC’s “Rude” finished fifth. Fourteen of the 40, or 35%, were tunes by Canadian artists which have been bolded in red in the chart below. According to the number of spins of these 40 songs, AC radio preferred American artists (41%). Canadian artists accounted for 30% of spins and British artists 19%. Songs voiced by women made up 24% of the plays and male singers 76%.
