According to RPM magazine, the biggest song of 1969 in Canada was “Get Back” by The Beatles. It was written by Paul McCartney. Six of the year-end Top 100 songs, bolded in red in the chart below, were authored by Canadians. Do note that, though an American group, Blood, Sweat & Tears was fronted by Canada’s David Clayton-Thomas at the time. Also, Andy Kim was part of virtual band The Archies. We have marked these in orange. The top purely Canadian entry on the chart was “Baby I Love You” by Andy Kim. The Canadian charts are an accurate reflection of Canadian tastes in music, and the Top 100 songs were determined both from nationwide sales and radio airplay data. The drawback with year-end charts is that songs charting from the end of one year through beginning of the next will have their chart performance split between the two years. More year-end and other Canadian charts can be found here.
