Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers won four Stanley Cups through the decade. Vancouver was the site of the 1986 World Expo. From the metropolitan area, Michael J. Fox, star of TV sitcom Family Ties starred in the blockbuster film Back to the Future in 1985. A number of Canadian pop/rock recording artists became global superstars in the 80s.
