2013 CCMA Award Nominations

Gord-BamfordThere’s a joke in the United States that if you play a country music record backwards, you get everything back: your spouse, your dog, your job, what have you. So the question is … when you play a Canadian country music record backwards, what happens?  The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards have been held annually since 1982.  In those years, big names were Carroll Baker, Family Brown, and Terry Carisse.  But Canada’s legacy reaches much further back all the way to Wilf Carter, the grandfather of Canadian country whose 1932 record “My Swiss Moonlight Lullaby / The Capture of Albert Johnson” was the first hit of the genre. The best-selling country artist of all-time from Canada is, of course, Shania Twain at 80 million records worldwide.  Three of her albums were certified double diamond in Canada. The nominations for the 2013 CCMAs have been released, and winners will be announced at a televised gala from Edmonton on September 8.  Below are the nominees in selected categories. For your convenience, we have provided YouTube links to the MVs of the Best Single and Video of the Year nominees.
