Music fans should find something dig-worthy in this week’s Canadian releases. Here’s a roundup of 10 of them.

Montreal duo Propofol has filled a void with LP Le Banquet. The two perform electronic rock but in a more punk-leaning fashion and with sultry female vocals to boot; this is a very delicious jam. Another winner is Between Colours, the latest album from The Wilderness of Manitoba who describes its music as dream pop meets folk rock. Montrealer La Bronze has dazzled the folks at iTunes; track “La jeunesse féline” has been named Single of the Week (grab it here). Headbangers can revel in the new EP from Nanaimo, BC’s The Body Politic; the music on Egressor is described as progressive metal. Country music fans will no doubt be impressed with the debut EP from Vancouver duo Austin Belle which includes catchy title-track “Just Drive“.

Multiplatinum Bruno Pelletier is back. This time he has teamed up with Guy St-Onge to cover hit songs from the movies; this is actually a bilingual work. Raton Lover is a new 4-member rock band from Quebec City. Check out its self-titled album for some good tunes. Another great rock release this week, leaning more towards the roots side, is The Union from Kingston, ON’s The Glorious Sons. For those of you hungry for something a bit more lightweight sonically and beautiful, Montreal singer-songwriter Adam Cohen has released We Go Home deservedly earning a Top 10 iTunes placement. Finally, let’s not forget our northern artists: Lowell hails from the good ol’ Yukon and has launched her debut alt-rock album which is just fab.

A Batch of New Songs Beefs Up the Summer of 2014

Summer 2014 Singles copy

This week, at least half a dozen maple dipped singles materialized on the digital shelves of online retailers. Hopefully, at least one of them will hit the spot for you. Montréal EDM wizard and music producer Tiga has released “Bugatti” showing that he still has the magic that helped him win a JUNO award back in 2007. Speaking of JUNO award winning artists, Vancouver’s Grimes has a new song out called “Go“. This one, which features Canadian producer Blood Diamonds, is more mainstream than her previous avant-garde efforts. This owes to its being originally written for Rihanna.

Austin Belle is a new country duo from Vancouver. Singer-songwriter Stacey McKitrick was part of chart-topping supergroup Young Artists For Haiti. The other half of Austin Belle is Jesse Wainwright, a member of multiplatinum rock band State of Shock. The duo released a single earlier in the year. “Just Drive” is the followup.

Diamond veteran Tom Cochrane‘s latest tune is “Sunday Afternoon Hang” which proves that the Manitoban still has it. Alberta’s Raghav, after Hot 100 charting single “WooHoo” and writing music for Hollywood feature films, has a new feel-good dance anthem for the summer entitled “Take Me Away“. Finally, Hot 100 charting Vernon BC singer Andrew Allen isn’t just thinking about anyone; he’s … “Thinking About You“.
